Melone Hatley, P.C. serves as a woman-led voice for families throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. This year, ahead of the firm’s 10th anniversary, the team wants to lend a hand to students intent on pursuing their ambitions in the world of business.
Melone Hatley’s 10th Anniversary Women in Business Scholarship offers one young woman the opportunity to put an additional $10,000 toward their education. Applicants must be in the first or second year of their undergraduate career or law school, and they must intend to graduate with a degree in business.
Melone Hatley, P.C. looks forward to supporting ambitious women as they try to break into entrepreneurship and business.
Application Requirements
Any young woman pursuing an undergraduate or graduate business degree can apply for the Melone Hatley 10th Anniversary Women in Business Scholarship so long as she meets the following criteria:
- Applicants must be in good academic standing
- Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted at an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States
- Applicants must agree to the scholarship terms and conditions
- Applicants must submit the necessary application materials
How to Apply
Applicants must complete a 500 to 1,000-word scholarship essay to apply for the Melone Hatley 10th Anniversary Women in Business Scholarship. Upon completing their essays, students must then:

Scholarship Essay Topic
Melone Hatley, P.C. wants its scholarship applicants to take between 500 and 1,000 words to go into detail about the talents, skills, and unique perspectives that women can bring to entrepreneurship and business. The firm encourages applicants to integrate their personal skills and perspectives into their essays.
For your essay to be eligible please include the following:
- A header where you mention your full name; the name of the scholarship; the name of the institution you are enrolled in; the mailing address from your financial aid office where we can mail the award; the e-mail address and phone number from your financial aid office; the student ID number.
- A catchy and original title.
- A bibliography where you mention all the sources of information used (eg: books, sites; articles, magazines, reports, etc.)
- Citations
Once finished, please make sure that you save your essay in Word format and name it by using the following example, “Melone Hatley’s 10th Anniversary Women in Business Scholarship – Student Name”.
Scholarship Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for the Melone Hatley 10th Anniversary Women in Business Scholarship is May 15, 2025. The firm will not read scholarship essays submitted after this deadline passes.
Melone Hatley, P.C. reserves up to three months to review scholarships submitted for its consideration. The review process can take longer, however, depending on the number of applications received. Neither students nor their families may reach out to the firm with questions about the application process or the status of a submitted application. A firm representative will get in touch with applicable students if questions arise about their essays.
Terms and Conditions
All applicants to this scholarship must meet the eligibility requirements as laid out on the scholarship application page, including:
- Applicant must be enrolled at a college, university, or graduate school
- Applicant must be at least 18 years old at the age of enrollment
- Applicant must have residency in the United States
- Applicant must be in good academic standing
- Applicant must submit some personal information, including name and contact information
- Applicant must author an original essay on the scholarship essay topic provided
- Applicant must be a woman in her first or second year of undergrad or law school
- Applicant must intend to graduate with a business degree
Anyone who meets the following conditions is NOT eligible to apply:
- Employees or children of employees of Melone Hatley, P.C.
- Past recipients of the Melone Hatley 10th Anniversary Women in Business Scholarship
- Applicants who are unable/unwilling to be interviewed by a representative of Melone Hatley, P.C. if they were to be awarded a scholarship.
- Applicants who submit the same essay for multiple scholarships or for multiple years in a row.
Selection & Award Notification Process
Age, race, religion, national origin, familial status, or other protected classes will have no influence on the committee’s decision.
Melone Hatley, P.C. reserves up to three months to consider students’ scholarship applications. The firm cannot answer questions about the selection process or the status of a student’s application at this time. Please do not reach out to the firm with questions about the application.
A representative from the firm will reach out to its scholarship winner via email. The winning student can expect the firm to release a blog post and press release celebrating their receipt of the scholarship funds. The firm will then work with the student’s chosen university to transfer the scholarship funds.
Melone Hatley, P.C. will not consider scholarship applications submitted without all essential materials or after the scholarship’s deadline passes. Please read through the eligibility criteria carefully and stay on top of your submission deadline.
